Getting Started
Assessment
After a referral is accepted, we will schedule an evaluation to discuss your child’s strengths and areas of need. It is important to understand your child’s specific needs and your goals for therapy.
Review
After the assessment, we will discuss recommendations for treatment and establish treatment goals. If your child does not qualify for services or you wish to speak with another provider, I will do my best to refer you.
Therapy
Length and frequency of therapy sessions will depend on your child’s needs and availability. Sessions may or may not include parents or caregivers. This depends on treatment needs and your family’s goals.
When I worry too much:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for child and adolescent anxiety and OCD.
In 2012, I had the privilege of attending a weeklong training with Dr. Aureen Pinto Wagner on the treatment of childhood and adolescent anxiety and OCD. That training kicked off a decade long focus on working with children, adolescents and their families to address these very common, but little understood, childhood struggles.
The Worry Hill® approach to treating anxiety and OCD focuses on teaching you and your child specific strategies to understand and manage anxious thoughts and behaviors.
CBIT:
Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics
In 2020, I traveled to UCLA to attend a three day intensive on the treatment of tic disorders and Tourette Syndrome. This training kicked off a passion for serving children and families affected by tics and Tourettes.
CBIT is a structured approach to lessening the severity of tics. Sessions focus on developing specific skills to help adults and children manage and cope with their tics.
CBIT is supported by the American Psychological Association, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the Tourette Association of America as the first line of treatment for tic disorders and Tourette Syndrome.
